The valve covers are different colors (obviously) and the blacktop is a newer engine (96-98 I think) where a redtop was produced from 91-93. The S14 blacktop has 20 more HP. It has VVT, a different turbo (T-28) and low-port rather then high-port intake design. The second gen of the S14's came with T28 BB turbos.

sr20det injectors not firing. Im scoured every injector related thread on multiple different forums and still haven't found a solution so I decided to post. My sr20det blacktop was running just a few weeks ago and I went to start it cranked but couldn't turn over. So I checked the injectors and they weren't firing.

s13 blacktop has s14 pistons and other bottom end parts, but has the same top end as an s13 redtop and all parts are interchangeable between the two. s14 blacktop has a notch in the back, vtc, and different intake ports. The intake change and vtc were an effort to lower emissions and improve low end torque.
